1. Who these apply to
These Guidelines apply to every user of the DormDeal app and to all listings, photos, descriptions, messages, profiles, and other user content. They cover buyers and sellers, including conduct at campus handoffs.
2. Conduct
You must not:
- Harass, intimidate, bully, threaten, or stalk anyone
- Use hate speech or target people based on protected characteristics
- Encourage violence or self-harm
- Shame, extort, or blackmail another student
If you feel unsafe, use Report and Block. If there is immediate danger, contact campus or local emergency services.
3. Privacy and recording
You must not:
- Post or message another person’s private information without consent (phone, email, address, student ID, government ID, financial details)
- Dox or try to identify someone off the app in order to harass them
- Share private chat screenshots in a way that exposes personal data
Florida generally requires the consent of all parties before you intercept or record a private wire, oral, or electronic communication (Fla. Stat. § 934.03). Do not record or distribute private conversations unless you have lawful consent. Public campus areas where people can reasonably be overheard are different from a private call or a closed-door conversation. When in doubt, do not record.
4. Listings
You must:
- Describe the item honestly, including defects
- Use your own photos, or photos you have permission to use
- Price in U.S. dollars without hiding the amount you actually want
You must not:
- List items you do not own or do not have the right to sell
- Misrepresent condition, brand, authenticity, or that an item is stolen
- Advertise one item and deliver another
Textbooks, dorm goods, electronics, clothing, and similar physical campus items are allowed when they are lawful. Event tickets are allowed only if resale is legal and permitted by the event and your campus.
5. Prohibited items and activity
Zero tolerance. Do not buy, sell, request, or facilitate:
- Stolen or counterfeit goods, or items that infringe others’ rights
- Illegal drugs or controlled substances
- Weapons or explosives
- Hazardous materials
- Adult sexual content or services
- Completed academic work sold to cheat (including plagiarized papers)
- Anything that violates law, campus rules, or these Guidelines
Fraud, fake accounts, impersonation of DormDeal staff, scraping, and spam are also prohibited. Serious violations can lead to immediate removal. There is no guaranteed sequence of warnings.
6. Messages and pickup
Use in-app chat to arrange a campus meetup. During the pilot, payment happens at pickup, not in the app. Do not pressure someone to share a phone number, payment handle, or off-app account as a condition of the sale before you have a reason to trust them.
- Meet in a public, well-lit campus place (library lobby, student center)
- Bring a friend if you want
- Inspect the item before you pay and leave
- Do not share passwords, bank details, or government ID numbers
DormDeal cannot guarantee safety at a meetup. You choose where and whether to meet. Do not enter a private residence if you feel pressured or unsafe.
7. Report and block
- Listing: open the listing menu and choose Report
- User: open the profile and choose Report or Block
- Message: use Report on the thread or message
We review reports to enforce these Guidelines and the Terms of Service. If a report shows immediate harm, illegal activity, or a credible threat, we may act quickly and may share information with law enforcement when the law requires or allows it.
8. Enforcement and appeals
Depending on severity, we may:
- Remove or limit content
- Warn you
- Suspend listing or messaging
- Terminate the account
If you think we made a mistake, email support@dormdeal.app (support@dormdeal.app) within 30 days and include what happened. We may uphold, reverse, or change the action.
